Toronto Raptors legend Kyle Lowry has started his career as an NBA broadcaster, but he’ll still be on the hardcourt this upcoming season.

The 39-year-old has not retired from the sport and plans on playing in his 20th NBA season with the Philadelphia 76ers this year. That hasn’t stopped him from dipping his toe in a broadcasting career, as Lowry has officially been hired by Prime Video and will appear on broadcasts this season.

Lowry will appear on select NBA on Prime broadcasts while continuing to play with the 76ers. The streaming giant revealed that it had signed the former Raptors point guard to a multi-year deal and plans on giving Lowry increased responsibility in the coming years, probably once he decides to retire.

“I’m excited to start the next chapter of my basketball journey with the Prime Sports team,” Lowry said in a statement. “The talent they’ve assembled is incredible, and together we’ll deliver something fresh and special for basketball fans worldwide.

“It’s an honor to be part of this from Day One, and I’m committed to sharing the insights I’ve gained from my career through NBA on Prime for years to come.”

Lowry will join a star-studded NBA on Prime broadcast crew that includes former players like Dirk Nowitzki, Blake Griffin, and Dwyane Wade. Lowry will be the only active NBA player to contribute.

Rumours of Lowry joining the NBA on Prime team circulated last year when it was assumed that he was going to retire. Those whispers were then seemingly silenced once the NBA champion re-signed with the 76ers in July, but it appears Lowry wasn’t going to let his playing career get in the way of his eventual retirement gig.

This will be Prime Video’s first season broadcasting NBA games after the streaming service inked an 11-year rights agreement in the summer of 2024. A total of 66 regular-season games will be aired on Prime in the United States this upcoming season.

Lowry’s first appearance will probably come on Oct. 24 as the NBA on Prime will air a double-header and the 76ers do not have a game scheduled that night.
