These Raptors players are already back in Toronto for offseason work

While the NBA playoffs are going on elsewhere in the league, the Toronto Raptors appear to be well on their way to doing some offseason work.

Jamal Shead, Jonathan Mogbo, Immanuel Quickley, Garrett Temple, Ja’Kobe Walter, Jared Rhoden, and Ulrich Chomche were all in a suite at the Toronto Maple Leafs playoff game  against the Florida Panthers on Monday, while a few of the players also popped by Maple Leaf Square pregame to pump up the crowd.

And while the whole team wasn’t at the get-together, it appears that most, if not all, of the team will be popping through the team facilities at the OVO Athletic Centre and Scotiabank Arena over the course of the month.

Raptors second-year wing Gradey Dick revealed last month that the team would be in town for “a couple weeks,” while they also planned to head to Austin, Texas in a minicamp for some of the team’s youngsters hosted by the team’s backup point guard Shead at some point this offseason.

Temple was the lone team veteran in attendance, but it does provide an insight into what the team appears to be thinking — the 38-year-old might be sticking around the organization for another year.

Despite being one of the NBA’s oldest players, Temple indicated in an end-of-season interview with CityNews’ Lindsay Dunn that he’s planning to continue his playing career.

With the Raptors coming off a 30-win season in which they finished 11th in the Eastern Conference and, therefore, out of postseason contention, it’s never too early to start planning for next year.

“I think it was a good season for us. Year one of the rebuild. Now it’s time for the next chapter, and it’s time for us to take the next step,” Toronto head coach Darko Rajakovic told reporters last month to start his end-of-season media availability.

For Raptors fans, the next date on the calendar is Monday’s NBA Draft Lottery, where the team will figure out where exactly they’re picking in June for the annual event.
