Raptors not planning to move Kyle Lowry before trade deadline: report
The Toronto Raptors plan on keeping Kyle Lowry for the rest of this season.
According to TSN’s Josh Lewenberg, sources have said that teams asking about acquiring the 34-year-old have been told that the Raptors do not plan to move him.
The six-time All-Star is averaging 17.8 points, 7.5 assists, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game this season. Lowry is the Raptors franchise holder in three-pointers, triple-doubles, assists and steals. He also recently passed Basketball Hall of Fame finalist Chris Bosh for second in team history in points. The Villanova product in the final year of his $30 million contract.
Despite constant trade rumours surrounding Lowry, he reiterated his stance that, no matter what happens this season and beyond, he would one day retire as a member of the Raptors.
“I will say this. I will retire as a Toronto Raptor,” Lowry told reporters. “One-day contract, whatever happens.”
“What I would like to see is to finish this season out, strong as possible. Whatever happens, happens. At the end of the day, myself, my agent, the organization, everyone has to do what’s best for them.”
Lewenberg added that if the Raptors are going to make a deadline deal, it will likely involve Norman Powell. The 27-year-old is on a $10.9 million contract that has a player option for next season.
Powell has been on fire over the last six games, averaging 28.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists on 45 percent shooting from behind the three-point line.
Toronto is currently outside of the Eastern Conference playoff picture, having lost six consecutive games. The NBA trade deadline is in less than a week on March 25.
