Chris Boucher leaves Raptors for another team after seven years in Toronto

Chris Boucher’s time with the Toronto Raptors has finally come to an end.
As per ESPN’s Shams Charania, Boucher signed a one-year deal with the Boston Celtics, worth US$3.3 million.

Boucher was the last remaining member of Toronto’s 2019 championship team, having spent seven of his eight NBA seasons with the organization.
What led to Boucher leaving the Toronto Raptors?
His departure isn’t all that surprising, given that he’d fallen out of Toronto’s rotation for much of the latter half of the season as the team looked to develop younger players.
When he was in the lineup playing 17 minutes a game, Boucher averaged 10 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in 50 games this past season for the Raptors.
Boucher spoke to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto earlier this offseason about his time with the Raptors.
“I think of how much they believed in me at the beginning, and that was really something that I have to give them their flowers, to believe in something that people weren’t sure of at that time. I thought I was so much better,” Boucher said to Scotto of his early days with the Raptors franchise. “Obviously, I had some potential, but I wasn’t there yet. They kept believing in me and kept putting me in a position to get better.”
Boucher had also spoken to Scotto about wanting to play for a team that was in contention for a playoff spot and had championship aspirations.
“We haven’t had winning seasons in those years, which explains it, but I can’t really afford not to be on a playoff team and trying to win, especially when it comes to my age.”
Boston faces uncertainty next season after an Achilles tendon injury to star Jayson Tatum, though the same can be said for much of the NBA. With the Celtics in the same division as the Raptors, Toronto fans should get at least two chances to see him return to his former city next season.
