PRESTO removes $10 minimum payment when reloading on all platforms
New changes are coming for PRESTO cardholders as Metrolinx has announced they’ve removed the minimum $10 reload on all platforms.
According to Metrolinx, as part of a phased plan, the transit company has reduced the $10 minimum payment on its online channels to $0.05.
“Like most fare card systems across the world, PRESTO requires customers to load a minimum value to their cards when they buy them. That’s a requirement that’s programmed right into the system,” said Metrolinx in a statement.

In 2019, PRESTO removed the minimum load at all retail and in-person customer service outlets down to a nickel.
Along with the minimum load reduction, PRESTO is introducing balance protection for customers who report their cards lost or stolen.
Customers will no longer be responsible for any charges that may be incurred on the card when reported.
“Previously there was a 24 hour wait period. This is something customers have asked for. It will take effect this weekend,” said Metrolinx.
