It’s news many have been waiting on for a long time… Popeyes’ famous Spicy Chicken Sandwich has officially landed in Canada for a test-launch.
But for the time-being, the iconic sammy is only available in Edmonton, Alberta. The restaurant says that it’ll be coming to both London and Windsor, Ontario, by the end of the summer.
As for the official national launch? That’s slated for fall 2020.
The fast food chain teased the impending Canadian arrival of its Internet-breaking sandwich this winter, and now, after some delay, its test-run has officially begun. The handheld was always meant to be tested in both provinces, but given Alberta’s pandemic-related government restrictions lifted before Ontario’s, the sammy gets to arrive there first.
The beloved sandwich consists of a tender all white meat chicken breast fillet, which is marinated in Louisiana seasonings, then hand battered and breaded in buttermilk coating. It comes served on a warm and toasted buttery brioche bun with crisp barrel-cured pickles and Classic or Spicy Mayonnaise.

“We use only high-quality chicken that meets our specifications and a recipe that’s rich in Louisiana tradition and that dates back to 1972. That recipe is the centrepiece of our new sandwich,” said Rob Manuel, general manager of Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Canada, in a release.
“We use flour and our buttermilk batter to provide the perfect crispy texture that our guests have come to expect from our flagship fried chicken. Then you’ve got an amazing buttery brioche bun, tangy mayo, crisp pickles — all of these ingredients come together perfectly to create one amazing sandwich that our guests can’t get enough of.”
Guests can also try a special Deluxe version of the sandwich that is being tested in Canada, which features all of the above ingredients, plus lettuce and tomato.
In Alberta, the Chicken Sandwich (regular or spicy) is $6.49 + tax, and the Deluxe Chicken Sandwich (regular or spicy) is $6.99 + tax.
