New French restaurant to open in Toronto despite industry shutdown

May 7 2020, 3:52 pm

While Toronto’s restaurant industry may not be having it’s greatest moment in history, the current state of the union isn’t stopping some eager eateries from opening up shop.

Pompette is one example.

The soon-to-open French restaurant has been teasing Toronto with Instagram posts hinting at the deliciousness that’s to come since December.

Taking over the space at 597 College Street, the restaurant is replacing Capitol Trattoria Pizzeria, and was poised to serve Cassoulet and other French delicacies to the Little Italy crowd.

Of course, in light of recent events, plans for opening a new restaurant must be shifted. But that doesn’t mean they need to be halted. Enter: opening with takeout-only offerings in lieu of dining in.

Pompette has been sending tastes of their takeout menu to other restauranteurs across the city, and promises that they will be opening soon for contactless pickup at the restaurant.

Keep an eye on the spot’s Instagram page, where details are being released, to learn more about the exact date that offerings will launch.

With posts riddled with hashtags including #cocktails, #wine, and #frenchcuisine, we’re betting that meals from this joint will be the next best thing to cozying up with your friends in a bistro atmosphere to share a bottle and a bite.
