A gorgeous 'Pink Moon' will light up Canada's skies next week

A pink moon will soon be lighting up the night’s sky across Canada.

Considering we might be running out of things to watch on TV, gazing at April’s pink moon might prove to be more important this month than in years past.

The pink moon is an April phenomenon. When the full moon shines in April, the moon is referred to as the pink moon, or the full pink moon.

This month’s full moon occurs on Tuesday, April 7 at 10:30 pm EDT (2:35 UTC April 8) and according to Space, it will also be classified as a supermoon.

A supermoon means it’ll be at its closest to Earth in its orbit, making it appear a litter brighter and larger than usual.

According to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, the name comes from the Native American practice of giving titles to full moons. In April, the first sightings of herb moss pink and wild ground phlox, are signs of the earliest widespread flowers of the spring.

The pink moon also has other names it goes by, sometimes called a Full Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon or the Full Fish Moon.

So no, it’s not really pink, but it’s quite the breathtaking sight.

According to Space, stargazers won’t need any specific eye protection to gaze this month’s pink moon. Just find a comfy spot in your self-isolation zone and sneak away from the daunting planet for a bit.
