New aerial footage captured above Abbotsford, BC, shows the extent of damage caused by flooding brought on by an “atmospheric river.”

Abbotsford is the latest city to put an evacuation order in place, and more than 1,200 people have left their homes.  Footage shows farms and properties submerged, and parts of the Trans-Canada Highway completely washed out.

An evacuation order is in place for the entire portion of the Sumas Prairie to the Chilliwack border.

BC Highway 1 is closed from Sumas Way to Yale Road due to flooding.

Here’s a look at what the region looks like.

The footage was captured by Sophia Middleton, an Alberta resident who flew into BC to visit family in the Lower Mainland.
