Durham Region Health has declared an outbreak after eight people tested positive for COVID-19 following a wedding in Oshawa.

The health department is urging anyone who attended a wedding on September 19 at the Caribbean Cultural Centre, located at 600 Wentworth Street East, to contact Durham Health as soon as possible.

“We are reaching out through the media to help us make contact with anyone who may have attended this event,” said Dr. Pepi McTavish, Durham Region Assistant Medical Officer of Health, in a release.

“It is very important that individuals who participated in this wedding contact us as soon as possible to allow Health Department staff to provide appropriate follow-up.”

Durham Health is having difficulty obtaining a full list of attendees and their contact information and are reaching out through social media in hopes that they can come in contact with the approximately 50 guests that attended.

The department is also aware of the eight to 10 staff that were at the event.

“Health Department staff is also in contact with two local workplaces that have been impacted by this situation and will be working with these organizations to contact affected individuals,” said Durham Health.

Anyone who attended this wedding is asked to call the Health Department at 905-668-4113, ext. 2680.
