2,855 total Ontario student COVID-19 cases reported, four school closures
The Government of Ontario is reporting a total of 2,855 student COVID-19 cases since classrooms reopened, including more school closures.
According to the provincial government, 86 cases reported today are student-related, 15 are staff-related, and one has not been identified. Ontario schools reported 102 cases in 24 hours.
The new total has now reached 4,573 since back to school.
There have been 1,185 school-related cases in just two weeks, with 3,388 reported 14 or more days before that.
The numbers are announced daily at 10:30 am on the province’s school and childcare centre coronavirus-tracking website.
Out of the total cases recorded since September, about 62% have been from students.
The province reports four school closures out of the 670 schools that have cases.
As for licensed childcare centres, there are now 762 total confirmed cases with 127 centres and 452 homes closed.
On Monday morning, the provincial government confirmed 1,746 new COVID-19 cases, with more than 600 coming from Toronto.
This is an increase from Sunday’s 1,708 but a decrease from Saturday’s 1,822 and Friday’s record-breaking 1,855.
