18 Ontario schools closed as COVID-19 cases continue to surpass 100 daily
The Government of Ontario reports 137 new COVID-19 cases in schools on Monday morning and a total of 18 closures.
According to the provincial government, 114 cases reported today are student-related, and 23 are staff-related.
The new total has now reached 6,356 since back to school.
There have been 1,733 school-related cases in just two weeks, with 4,623 reported 14 or more days before that.
The numbers are announced daily at 10:30 am on the province’s school and childcare centre coronavirus-tracking website.

Out of the total cases recorded since September, about 68% have been from students.
The province now reports 18 school closures out of the 889 schools that have cases.

As for licensed childcare centres, there are now 1,069 total confirmed cases with 166 centres and 483 homes closed.

On Monday morning, the provincial government reported 1,940 new COVID-19 cases, an increase from Sunday’s 1,677, Saturday’s 1,873, Friday’s 1,848, but less than Thursday’s record-breaking 1,983.
