Ontario to schools: Bring home all online learning materials for winter break

Dec 17 2020, 3:09 am

Ontario’s Ministry of Education is warning students and staff to take home necessary materials from school before winter break in case remote learning is extended in the New Year.

A Ministry official told Daily Hive that schools should be prepared for circumstances to change quickly during the pandemic. They added the first memo to school boards encouraging students and teachers to make sure they have access to their online learning materials went out in October.

The Ministry of Education has previously said Ontario schools won’t need an extended winter break, although Toronto District School Board teachers have called for it along with expanded asymptomatic testing.

More than 220 new COVID-19 cases were discovered at Ontario schools on Wednesday, and 20 schools are currently closed for virus-related reasons.
