Over 700 Ontario school COVID-19 cases reported in two weeks

The Government of Ontario is reporting 98 more COVID-19 cases in schools in Friday’s update, bringing the total to 1,242 across the province.

According to the provincial government on October 16, 55 of the new cases are student-related, 12 are staff-related, and 31 are unidentified.

There has been a reported 735 school-related cases in just two weeks, with 507 cases reported 14 or more days before that.

The numbers are announced daily at 10:30 am on the province’s school and childcare centre coronavirus-tracking website.

The TDSB’s Martingrove Collegiate Institute is still reporting five cases from students, the most within any GTA school.

Ontario is also reporting five school closures out of the 485 schools with reported cases.

As for licensed childcare centres, there are now 292 total confirmed cases, as well as 69 centres and 322 homes closed.

On Friday, the Government of Ontario confirmed 712 new coronavirus cases, making this the fifth straight day the province is reporting over 700.

Across the region, cases have been high with Thursday’s 783Wednesday’s 721Tuesday’s 746, Monday’s 807, Sunday’s 649, Saturday’s 809, and Friday’s 939, which is the highest count to date in the pandemic.
