Ontario schools report over 2,200 COVID-19 cases since September

The Government of Ontario is reporting 71 more COVID-19 cases in schools in Monday’s update, surpassing 2,230 school cases since September.

According to the provincial government, 41 of the new cases are student-related, eight are staff-related, and 22 are unidentified.

There has been a reported 923 school-related cases in just two weeks, with 1,175 cases reported 14 or more days before that.

The numbers are announced daily at 10:30 am on the province’s school and childcare centre coronavirus-tracking website.

Out of the 2,230 cases reported since September, about 56% of cases have been reported from students.

The province reports one new school closure out of the 558 schools currently reporting cases.

As for licensed childcare centres, there are now 430 total confirmed cases, as well as 92 centres and 392 homes closed.

On Monday, the province confirmed 948 new coronavirus cases on Monday morning, a slight decrease from November 1.

Sunday reported 977 cases and Saturday with 1,015 — last Sunday saw a record-high of 1,042 cases.
