Ontario reports over 100 school-related coronavirus cases in a single day

The Government of Ontario is reporting 109 more coronavirus cases in schools in Thursday’s update, bringing the total to 1,145 across the province.

According to the provincial government, 55 of the new cases are student-related, 17 are staff-related, and 37 are unidentified.

There has been a reported 686 school-related cases in just two weeks, with 459 cases reported 14 or more days before that.

The numbers are announced daily at 10:30 am on the province’s school and childcare centre coronavirus-tracking website.

The TDSB’s Martingrove Collegiate Institute is now reporting five cases from students, the most within any GTA school.

Ontario is also reporting five school closures out of the 451 schools with reported cases.

As for licensed childcare centres, there are now 281 total confirmed cases, as well as 65 centres and 318 homes closed.

The provincial government has reported 783 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday morning, which is a slight increase from the day before.

Overall cases across the province have been high recently with Wednesday’s reported 721Tuesday’s 746, Monday’s 807, Sunday’s 649, Saturday’s 809, and Friday’s 939.
