Ontario reports over 1,000 COVID-19 cases in schools since September

The Government of Ontario is reporting 96 more coronavirus cases in schools in Wednesday’s update, bringing the total to 1,040 across the province.
According to the provincial government, 51 of the new cases are student-related, 13 are staff-related, and 32 are unidentified.
There has been a reported 645 school-related cases in just two weeks, with 395 cases reported 14 or more days before that.
The numbers are announced daily at 10:30 am on the province’s school and childcare centre coronavirus-tracking website.

The TDSB’s Martingrove Collegiate Institute is now reporting six cases from students, the most within any GTA school.
Ontario is also reporting five school closures out of the 421 schools with reported cases.

In licensed childcare centres, there are now 261 total confirmed cases, as well as 61 centres and 298 homes closed.

In overall cases across the province, Tuesday saw 746, Monday had 807, Sunday saw 649, Saturday saw 809, and Friday had 939 which is the highest count to date throughout the pandemic.
The province reported 721 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday morning, a slight decrease from the day before.
