Ontario schools report more than 600 coronavirus cases in two weeks

The Government of Ontario is reporting 72 more coronavirus cases in schools, bringing the total to 948 across the province.

In the October 13 update, 49 of the new cases are student-related, eight are staff-related, and 15 are unidentified.

There has been a reported 661 school-related cases in just two weeks, with 287 cases reported 14 or more days before that.

The numbers are announced daily at 10:30 am on the province’s school and childcare centre coronavirus-tracking website.

Of the total cases, 98 have been reported in several Toronto schools among students and staff.

The TDSB’s Martingrove Collegiate Institute is reporting eight cases from students, the most within any GTA school.

Ontario has now reported three school closures out of the 436 schools with reported cases.

In licensed childcare centres, there are now 246 total confirmed cases, as well as 59 centres and 290 homes closed.

This past Thanksgiving weekend, Friday reported 939 coronavirus cases, Saturday reported 809, and Sunday saw 649 new cases.

Friday’s number was the highest count to date throughout the pandemic.

The province reported 807 new coronavirus cases for Monday and 746 on Tuesday, with a combined 1,292 resolved cases over the last two days.
