Originally used as a fire lookout during the first half 20th century, the tower was rebuilt with an additional five metres in 1967 to give visitors an unparalleled view of the Algonquin Highlands.
Located north of the Town of Dorset, off highway 35, the tower is visited by at least 60,000 people every year, with as many as 600 cars visiting every day during the fall when the leaves begin to change colour.
While the tower might be the main attraction, the area also has ground level lookouts and a hiking trail.
