Ontario reporting 51 new coronavirus cases in schools

The Government of Ontario is reporting 51 more coronavirus cases in schools, bringing the total to 141 reported in the province.

In the September 22 update, 26 of the new cases are student-related, seven are staff-related, and 18 are unidentified.

The numbers are reported daily at 10:30 am on the province’s school and childcare centre coronavirus-tracking website.

In Toronto, 16 cases have been reported, 19 from Brampton, 10 in Mississauga, and six from Oakville.

Ottawa has the highest amount of reported cases, standing at 28 total.

As for licensed child care centres, there are also 95 total cases that have caused the closure of 24 centres and 99 homes.

In order to reduce the spread of COVID-19, Premier Doug Ford announced that social gatherings in Toronto, Peel, and Ottawa will be limited to 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors.

As of September 22, the government of Ontario is reporting 478 new COVID-19 cases, the highest case count since May 8.
