Multiple teams trying to pry Bichette away from Toronto Blue Jays: report

The Toronto Blue Jays are looking to sign Bo Bichette in free agency, but they’re not the only ones.

In Game 7 of the World Series, despite an eventual Blue Jays loss, Bichette showed just how valuable he can be to a team with a go-ahead three-run home run.

And as one of the top free agents available this offseason, it appears the race for his services has begun, although perhaps at a position he’s only briefly played at the major league level.

“Bichette has received interest from multiple teams who view him as a second baseman or third baseman, due to the presence of an established shortstop on those rosters,” the MLB Network’s Jon Morosi wrote on X.

Bichette had a .311 batting average with 181 hits, 18 home runs, 94 RBIs, and 78 runs scored in 139 games in 2025.

But a knee injury suffered by the 27-year-old shortstop in early September resulted in him sitting on the sidelines through both the ALDS and ALCS, before being healthy enough to be a part of the Blue Jays roster for the World Series.

Bichette suited up at second base for the Jays in the World Series, after only playing shortstop or DH at the MLB level. He has never played third base in his MLB career.

Will Bichette be back with the Blue Jays?

It appears that both Bichette and the Blue Jays are interested in a reunion, but past MLB free agencies have shown that money can often be the deciding factor for many players.

For the Jays, they’re expected to be able to match most offers, though they decided against in-season negotiations for a contract extension.

“He’s been important. We will be in his market. As it speaks to the timing of the negotiation [during the season] – or lack thereof – really is coming from the respect of his right to get to free agency,” Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said earlier this month.
