A shooting in Mississauga this evening has left one person dead, and others with injuries, according to police.

Peel Regional Police tweeted that the incident took place at 6:22 pm in the Morning Star/Goreway area.

Speaking about the incident at the scene, Peel Police Const. Iryna Yashnyk confirmed that six people were shot, with one victim pronounced deceased on scene, and five others taken to hospital.

Police believe the incident took place outside a building on Darcel Avenue, and as part of the investigation, Yashnyk said the building is being cleared “to make sure there are no further victims.”

Noting it is “very early” in the the investigation, Yashnyk didn’t reveal any information available on the ages or the genders of the victims.

Asked what the relationship was between the shooters and the victims, Yashnyk said it is also too early in the investigation to determine that, as well. She didn’t provide any information on the deceased victim, other than to say they were notifying next-of-kin.

As for a suspect description, or identification, Yashnyk said police don’t yet have any information on that, but “we’re speaking with several witnesses and will be canvassing for video.”

Calling the investigation “active” and “dynamic,” Yashnyk said police are continuing to investigate the incident and have “numerous units on scene.”

The Homicide Bureau has been called in to investigate the incident, as well.
