Mirvish theatres to remain closed until at least end of June

Toronto’s four Mirvish theatres will remain closed until June 30 at the very earliest, David Mirvish announced on Friday.

Initially, all locations were to be closed until April 12. The announcement extends the planned closures and suspension of performances an additional 12 weeks.

“When health and safety have been restored we will reopen the theatres,” Mirvish said in a release.

The extended closures will affect the following performances:

  • Come from Away until and including June 30 at the Royal Alexandra Theatre;
  • all remaining performances of Hamilton at the Ed Mirvish Theatre;
  • all performances of The Simon & Garfunkel Story at the CAA Theatre;
  • and the touring production of Les Misérables, which was to have played at the Princess of Wales Theatre June 16 to August 23. The show’s producers have decided to take a pause in its tour; they will announce future plans in due time.

Mirvish plans to resume performances of Come From Away, and the theatre group is in discussion with the team behind Hamilton and The Simon & Garfunkel Story to plan return visits.

Further, Mirvish hopes Les Misérables will also be able to visit at a later time.

Anyone with tickets to all affected performances, as listed above, will automatically be given a Mirvish credit for the full value of their tickets, plus service charges.

Mirvish says that this is because this forced cancellation of more than 250,000 tickets to 11 different shows is — naturally — unprecedented. Because each ticket cancellation needs to be handled delicately, for the security of confidential financial information, automatic credits is the best option.

This method ensures, Mirvish says, that patrons won’t lose their money and personal information, such as credit card details, won’t be compromised.

Credit’s will live in each individual’s Mirvish/TicketKing account and will be theirs to use as they choose, whenever they choose — in one or multiple transactions or to purchase gift cards.

Refunds, which would be made in full to the original method of payment, can be requested via the online form at mirvish.com.

Mirvish phone lines are open Monday to Friday, from 9 am to 4:30 pm.
