Next time you reach for the carton of milk in your fridge, make sure to check if it’s part of a major recall across Canada.
On Wednesday, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced the recall of several affected lots from three brands of milk sold in Canada.
“The affected products are being recalled from the marketplace due to possible presence of pieces of glass,” reads the statement.
The recall was triggered by Agropur, a Canadian dairy cooperative based in Quebec, and according to the company’s recall website, the affected products were manufactured at its Bedford, N.S., facility.
Brands include Natrel, Farmers, and Québon and affected lots were sold in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec, and other parts of Canada.

“This decision follows an investigation triggered by a consumer complaint, which identified a potential risk for the presence of material resembling glass in certain products,” states Agropur’s website. “We confirm that the situation is now under control. We are continuing our internal investigation to determine whether any additional measures need to be implemented.”
Canadians are urged to check if they have any recalled products, which should not be consumed, served, used, sold, or distributed. If you find that you have the recalled product, make sure to throw it out or return it to the location where you purchased it.

The recall was categorized as a class one, which means that “there is a high risk that consuming the food may lead to serious health problems or death.”
According to the CFIA, it’s working to remove the affected products from the marketplace. The investigation is ongoing, which could lead to more product recalls.
“The safety of the consumers and product quality are among Agropur’s highest priorities,” states Agropur.
