McDonald’s is certainly no stranger to shaking up its menu with new items on the regular. But the fast food giant is kicking it up a gear with its latest innovation, and there’s no meat in sight!

Starting on March 18, select McDonald’s locations in British Columbia, Ontario, and New Brunswick will be testing out its latest sandwich, the McVeggie.

The McVeggie features a breaded veggie patty made with a blend of vegetables such as carrots, green beans, zucchini, peas, soybeans, broccoli and corn, as well as seasoning. The burger is served in a toasted sesame bun and topped with shredded lettuce and mayo-style sauce.

For those looking to spice it up further, McDonald’s will also have a Spicy Habanero McVeggie with the same patty, topped with a spicy Habanero sauce. Each sandwich can be bought separately or as part of an extra-value meal.

“While our guests may have tried similar sandwiches at McDonald’s globally, our McVeggie is uniquely Canadian,” said Jeff Anderson, senior manager of culinary innovation at McDonald’s Canada.

“We’re always looking for new opportunities to innovate and build on our menu, and the McVeggie will give even more guests the opportunity to enjoy that delicious McDonald’s flavour Canadians know and love.”

The sandwich tests will run from March 18 until April 14, and McDonald’s will be gathering feedback from guests before exploring a nationwide rollout at participating restaurants if the test period is successful.

Those who want to be among the first to try out McDonald’s new McVeggie sandwiches will be able to get hold of them at select restaurants in the following cities:

  • Langley, B.C.
  • Richmond, B.C.
  • Surrey, B.C.
  • Brampton, Ont.
  • Windsor, Ont.
  • Dieppe, N.B.
  • Moncton, N.B.
  • Riverview, N.B.
