Matty Matheson serving up curb-side eats near Niagara Falls this weekend

Disclaimer: the Province of Ontario does not recommend travel to regions in different stages of reopening the economy.

For those about to have meat sweats, Matty Matheson salutes you… and he wants to help you get there.

Over the last several weekends, the chef, adored across Toronto, has been serving up “Matty Matheson’s Meat + Three” roadside in Fort Erie — that’s just a stone’s throw from Niagara Falls.

The Ontario government announced Monday that Toronto must remain in Stage 1 of reopening the economy, while surrounding regions in the GTHA — Niagara included — are given the green-light to reopen.

This means that Torontonians wanting a fill of Matty’s cooking should hold off on a road trip for now, as its not recommended to be traveling to regions in different stages. However, if you’re a Toronto-based foodie whose been sheltering-in-place at your family home near Niagara (we know you’re out there!), this is the weekend event for you.

The pop-up will run both Saturday and Sunday at 465 Central Avenue, and there will be three meals on offer both days.

The first, in honour of Dad’s Day, is the $125 Father’s Day Combo. Before your jaw hits the floor over the price, consider what you’re getting: Texas-style beef rib; 300 oz bone-in smoked prime rib; three smoked, baby-back ribs, a fried chicken leg and thigh; sliced and smoked top sirloin, plus two servings each of Cheeto mac and cheese, tater tots, coleslaw, and dinner rolls. Boom.

Next up is the $35 Barbeque and Fried Chicken Combo Plate, featuring three smoked baby-back ribs, a fried chicken leg and thigh, sliced smoked roast beef, Cheeto mac and cheese, tater tots, coleslaw, and a dinner roll.

And third is the $65 Big Dog Combo Plate: three smoked baby-back ribs, a fried chicken leg and thigh, sliced and smoked roast beef, Texas beef chuck, Cheeto mac and cheese, tater tots, coleslaw, and a dinner roll.

From each meal purchased, $1 will be donated to Women’s Place South Niagara and, this week, Matty said he’ll be matching those donations personally.

To get in on the experience, pre-order your choice of meal online, alongside your preferred pick-up day and time. Pick-up times will be separated into 10-minute intervals during each hour. A noon order could mean you’re invited to pick up your food at 12:10 pm, 12:50 pm, or any interval in between, ensuring physical distancing practices are maintained.

Once your order is placed, details on your visit — including a confirmation number — will be sent to your email. On your pickup day, make sure you bring your confirmation number along with you.
