Sushi, bubble tea, and desserts fill the Markham restaurant scene, leaving pubs and patios in the background.
Most of the best Markham patios restaurants live on either Unionville Mainstreet or Markham Mainstreet—two historic areas in the city.
These restaurants are a hidden city gem that show a different side of Markham. (For those who don’t know, Unionville is a part of Markham.)
Jake’s on Main is always bumpin’ with great music (sometimes a live band) on its large patio–their jams fill up the whole entire Unionville Main Street. The food, like many other spots on this list, is standard pub food, but the place’s atmosphere really heightens your whole experience. Definitely a great place to grab a beer with friends on a weekend night.
Address: 202 Main Street, Unionville
NextDoor is a new restaurant/bar that opened last month at the Unionville Planing Mill. Their patio sits right beside a small water reservoir that feeds a watermill in the summer months. This patio is serene and provides a different atmosphere than typical pub patios.
The spot has served multiple restaurants in the past few years, but NextDoor may be a keeper with its delicious, Asian-inspired dishes. The Fried Brussels Sprouts are a must-try.
Address: 139 Main St Unionville, Markham
This restaurant and pub has a decadent history, spanning to the 19th century when the building was used as a Ford dealership and general store (the general store later became a post office). The Unionville Arms opened in 1989, and people have filled the Arm’s patio every summer weekend since. Although the outdoor space is smaller than Jake’s across the street, the customers are just as happy.
Address: 189 Main Street, Unionville
Moving to Markham Main Street, Main’s Mansion has a roadside patio that’s perfect for the summer months. The place serves a typical pub menu and has a reputation for its delicious weekend brunches. Main’s Mansion holds regular events such as poker nights and karaoke nights.
Address: 144 Main Street North, Markham
The Duchess of Markham one-ups the other spots on this list by not having one, but two patios! Similar to Main’s, there’s a roadside patio at the front of the restaurant and a secluded garden patio in the back. Expect live music every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, as well as afternoon patio jams during the summer.
Address: 53 Main Street North, Markham
