Man charged after allegedly bringing crossbow and knife to mall parking lot

A man has been charged by York Regional Police after being seen walking around a Vaughan mall parking lot with a knife and crossbow.

According to police, they were called to Vaughan Mills shortly before 7 pm on July 21 for a report of a man waving a knife.

Upon arrival, officers located the suspect in front of his vehicle that was in the parking lot in front of a Bass Pro Shops. The man was then taken into custody.

It was also discovered that the suspect was involved in a “fail-to-remain” collision in a parking lot, just a short distance away.

Officers found a knife, crossbow, methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.

The suspect has been identified as 25-year-old Wencheng Chen, of Markham. He has been charged with Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Schedule 3 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of a Schedule 3 Substance, Impaired Operation, Dangerous Operation, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Mischief, Drive Motor Vehicle While Under Suspension.

This investigation is ongoing.
