Man arrested for allegedly slashing two Toronto Police officers with a knife

Toronto Police have arrested a man for allegedly assaulting two officers causing serious injuries.

In a release, police said that just after 6:00pm on December 11, officers responded to a call for a person with a knife near Keele Street and Eglinton Avenue West.

Upon arrival, officers located a man who they say was armed with a knife and a spear. As they attempted to de-escalate the situation, they say that the man “advanced on the officers.” The suspect then allegedly slashed the officers with the knife.

Both police officers were taken to hospital and treated for serious injuries, TPS said.

Police have charged Toan Nguyen, 28, with possessing a dangerous weapon, two counts of Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon, two counts of Aggravated Assault of Peace Officer, and three counts of Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon with the Intent to Resist.
