Man charged with first degree murder after woman killed in machete attack

A 38-year-old Toronto man has been charged with first degree murder after Wednesday’s machete attack in Scarborough that left one woman dead.

According to police, on Wednesday, September 11, at 6:15 pm, officers responded to a call for a stabbing on Fishery Road.

Officers arrived and located a woman with obvious signs of trauma who was pronounced dead at the scene. At the time, homicide investigators were called in and have taken over the investigation.

Police have identified the victim as 27-year-old Tharshika Jeganathan, of Toronto.

Around 7 pm, on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, Sasikaran Thanapalasingam surrendered to police at 42 Division.

He has been charged with first degree murder.

Investigators say they would like to speak to anyone who may have knowledge concerning this investigation or previous history concerning the victim and accused.
