Canadian wins life-changing $40-million Lotto Max prize

One Canadian is set for life after turning a $5 Lotto Max lottery ticket into a massive multimillion-dollar win.

The Lotto Max draw took place on Friday, May 23, and the winning numbers were 13, 19, 23, 26, 36, 39, 47, and bonus 07. One very lucky Canadian lottery player snagged the jackpot after they matched the seven winning numbers, instantly becoming $40 million richer. According to PlayNow, the ticket was sold in Burnaby, B.C.

No one won the second prize worth $186,846.80, but the third prize will be split between 53 people, who will each receive $3,525.40. No one in B.C. won the $500,000 Lotto Max Extra prize or the $1-million Encore prize in Ontario.

The last person to win the Lotto Max jackpot was Justin Simporios of Surrey, B.C., who won $80 million on May 9.

“It’s just sinking in now, it’s life-changing,” said Simporios, wiping away his tears during the presentation ceremony. “Thank you so much, these are happy tears.”

The next Lotto Max draw is set for Tuesday, May 27, and the jackpot is worth $10 million.

Elsewhere in Canada, another lottery player in Western Canada is now $1 million richer after winning the Lotto 6/49 White Ball prize during the draw that took place on Saturday, May 24. No one won the Gold Ball prize worth $18 million.

Although no one won the $5 million Classic Draw prize, two people won the second prize, each receiving $68,715.30. The tickets were sold in Ontario and Duncan, B.C. The third prize will be split between 101 lottery players, each receiving $571.40.

No one won the Classic Draw Extra Prize worth $500,000 or the $1 million Encore prize.

The last time someone won the Lotto 6/49 jackpot was on May 7 when someone from Ontario won the $60-million jackpot. According to OLG, the winning ticket was purchased online.

The next Lotto 6/49 draw is set for Wednesday, May 28, and the jackpot is worth $20 million.
