A Quebec man is eyeing early retirement after winning a life-altering multimillion-dollar lottery prize.

Claude Boucher, a resident of the Bois-Francs region in Centre-du-Québec, won the Gold Ball Jackpot of $46 million in the Aug. 27 Lotto 6/49 draw.

The long-time employee of Cégep de Victoriaville bought the winning lottery ticket on the Loto-Québec gaming website. He celebrated his incredible win on Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Salon de jeux de Trois-Rivières, surrounded by family.

Boucher had been playing the same Lotto 6/49 numbers for years, and it finally paid off in the August Gold Ball draw.

The day after the draw, he discovered his lottery win in an email.

“I was scrolling quickly and I thought, ‘$46,000 isn’t too bad! But what are all those zeros? Oh, it’s $46,000,000!’” Boucher recalled.

He double-checked the results on the Loto-Québec website and his online gaming account, and confirmed that he had won $46 million.

Boucher waited a couple of hours before revealing the amazing news to his wife, an emotional moment they’ll never forget.

The massive lottery win has him thinking about retiring earlier than planned, though he doesn’t want to leave his bosses in the lurch.

Besides early retirement, Boucher also plans on travelling to Switzerland, where he lived with his wife in the 1980s. He also plans to spoil his loved ones with the lottery prize.

He’s not the only one planning for retirement after hitting the jackpot.

A 26-year-old lottery player from Toronto plans to help his parents retire after winning $60 million in the Lotto 6/49 Gold Ball draw on May 7.
