Ottawa police are investigating after re-elected Liberal MP Catherine McKenna’s campaign office was defaced with vulgar, sexist graffiti last night.

Graham Richardson, chief news anchor for CTV Ottawa, tweeted a picture of the graffiti showing a photo of McKenna’s face covered in red spray paint.

“Apologies for someone else’s vulgarity but this is the kind of crap @cathmckenna puts up with every day. Her campaign office was defaced overnight. She will respond shortly. This is beyond ugly,” he wrote.

Ottawa Police confirmed with Daily Hive that an investigation has been opened.

“We are aware of the incident and a complaint has been launched,” said Cst. Chuck Benoit.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford responded the incident on Twitter calling it “disgusting.”

“There is no place in Canada for hate like this. While we may disagree on matters, we must always respect one another,” wrote Ford.

Liberal MP, Gagan Sikand said McKenna is one of the “most hard-working, passionate people” he knows and called the graffiti “appalling.”

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh tweeted his support for McKenna calling the act “absolutely disgraceful.”

“No woman should have to deal with this in politics, or in any space. Thank you Catherine for your courage in the face of this violent, sexist act of hate. We stand with you,” said Singh.

On Monday, McKenna was re-elected as MP for Ottawa Centre. She served as minister of environment and climate change in Prime Minister in Trudeau’s previous cabinet.
