Toronto Maple Leafs looking to trade for a top-six forward: report

The Toronto Maple Leafs are just about ready to get their season underway.
While much of the Toronto sports audience might be turning their attention to the Blue Jays, the Leafs have a classic rivalry set up for Wednesday night, as they take on their long-time rival, the Montreal Canadiens.
But the team that you see tomorrow might not exactly be the Leafs that you see pretty soon.
What’s the latest rumour with the Leafs?
Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported in his 32 Thoughts column on Tuesday that the Leafs are in the hunt to acquire a top-six forward.
With true top-six forwards tough to come by on the waiver market, it’s likely that they’ll be making trade calls around the league in the coming weeks.
Of course, they could always give top prospect Easton Cowan a shot, who failed to crack the team’s opening night roster.
How does the team’s top six look right now?
Here’s what the Leafs’ forward group looks like, as per TSN:
- Matthew Knies – Auston Matthews – Matias Maccelli
- Bobby McMann – John Tavares – William Nylander
- Dakota Joshua – Max Domi – Nick Robertson
- Steven Lorentz – Nic Roy – Calle Jarnkrok
- Extra: Sammy Blais
Here’s how their defenders line up:
- Jake McCabe – Chris Tanev
- Morgan Rielly – Brandon Carlo
- Oliver Ekman-Larsson – Simon Benoit
- Extra: Philippe Myers
Anthony Stolarz is expected to start in net, while Cayden Primeau will be his backup.
