Leafs forward Pacioretty expected to miss "extensive" time with injury

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be without one of their biggest offseason adds for the foreseeable future, it seems.

Max Pacioretty, who was helped off the ice during Saturday’s 4-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens, will likely miss quite a bit of time in his first season in Toronto.

According to a radio appearance this morning from TSN’s Darren Dreger, the specifics of the injury are hard to find, but one thing is clear: it’ll be quite some time before Pacioretty suits up again.

“Sad for Pacioretty, it’s extensive,” Dreger said Monday morning. “Nobody’s going to disclose the specifics of the injury. I think we could all see that he was grabbing the back of his leg, upper leg, right? When he went down on the ice, we saw him get helped off the ice. So at that point, you knew that he was in considerable pain. I think we’ll hear more about that today.”

The Leafs later placed Pacioretty on injured reserve.

Pacioretty has two goals and four assists in 12 games for the Leafs this season. A former captain of the Canadiens, he signed a one-year deal in Toronto this year following stops with the Washington Capitals and Vegas Golden Knights.

The Leafs have dealt with several injury struggles this season, with Auston Matthews, Calle Jarnkrok, and Jani Hakanpaa all currently still sidelined for the team.

And despite some early season hiccups, things have gone rather swimmingly overall for coach Craig Berube in his first season behind the bench.

Toronto sits in second place in the Atlantic Division, just three points back of the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers. They hit the ice again on Tuesday night when they play host to the Ottawa Senators.
