Snacking between spin cycles: These Toronto cafes double as laundromats

Doing your chores can really work up an appetite, which is why these Toronto laundromats double as restaurants, cafes and ice cream parlours.
Perpetually spilling ice cream and coffee on your shirt? Us too, but it doesn’t have to be a trip-back-home-to-change level emergency.
From swanky, upscale dry cleaners with full-service cafes inside to hole-in-the-wall snack bars hidden behind the facade of a retro coin-operated laundromat, these cafes are bringing you the best of both worlds, all with that novelty spin that the city can’t seem to get enough of.
Here are four cafes in Toronto that just so happen to double as laundromats:
Creeds Coffee Bar

Arguably the innovators of the laundry-cafe concept in Toronto, this dry cleaner and coffee shop comes with a history of more than a century in the making. We’ll spare you all the details, but nowadays, all you need to know is that you can drop off a load of dry cleaning before knocking back an Americano all within the confines of its swanky Dupont home.
Coffee is far from the end of the story when it comes to the edible offerings at Creeds, though. You can also pick up a variety of sandwiches, baked goods, and even wine, beer, and prepared foods from its retail selection. Just be prepared to drop a pretty penny.

If you’ve been seeing all the buzz about espresso freezies in Toronto this summer and have been searching for them high and low at cafes and bakeries to no avail, you may have simply overlooked the place that’s serving them. That’s because it’s tucked away inside a Christie Street laundromat.
A joint venture between sisters Michelle and Natalie Saturnino, the snack bar doesn’t just serve their viral espresso creations — it also has a full suite of rotating baked goods, savoury snacks like empanadas, pizzas, and sandwiches, along with caffeinated beverages.
No worries if you spill some coffee on your shirt; you merely need to take a few steps and wash it in-house.

Yummi Cafe Laundromat

Though this cafe-laundromat hybrid has been in business for over a decade, it’s all too easy to pass it by — even with its undeniably food-centric name and logo depicting a coffee cup with a spinning washing machine in its centre.
Here, you can pick up cones of Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream, bubble tea, and coffee, and you may even be treated to the occasional live DJ set while you separate your lights and darks, too. Better yet, they have a free laundry access program that allows neighbours in need to clean their clothes for free.
That might even be sweeter than the ice cream!

The newest entrant on our list is a multihyphenate in every sense of the word. It’s a convenience store (that also sells nicotine products that shall not be named), dry cleaners, and gelato shop all wrapped into one itty-bitty St. Clair West storefront.
While you wait for your jeans to get starched to perfection, you can dig into a cup of gelato, a milkshake, a loaded sundae, or shaved ice. Not too shabby.
