Here's the latest injury update on Toronto Blue Jays veteran George Springer

George Springer’s absence from the Toronto Blue Jays lineup may wind up being a very temporary one.

Springer was forced to leave Game 4 in the seventh inning after grabbing at his right side following a swing on a pitch from LA Dodgers reliever Justin Wrobleski. It was an injury that, at the time, appeared to be rather serious.

Sure enough, Springer was unavailable for the Blue Jays in Game 5, instead being replaced by Davis Schneider. Despite the absence, however, there seems to be optimism that the 36-year-old may be able to get back in for Game 6 on Friday night.

“It is not out of the question we will see George Springer tonight,” MLB analyst Ken Rosenthal said shortly before Game 5. “He ran today and hit off of a velocity machine. John Schneider says he will be in the dugout, not as a decoy, but as an actual possibility to pinch hit.”

With the Blue Jays in full control of Wednesday’s game, there wound up being no reason to go to Springer. That said, Schneider seemed very optimistic about his injury timeline when speaking with reporters on Thursday afternoon.

Should Springer be able to get back into the lineup, there is a good chance that Bichette, who served as the DH for Game 5, will go back to second base. That would allow for Springer to slide back in as DH, and would likely push Schneider out of the lineup once again.

Through 57 at-bats in the postseason, Springer is hitting .246 with four home runs and nine RBI. His biggest home run, of course, came in Game 7 of the ALCS versus the Seattle Mariners.

While we are sure to get further updates early on Friday, it sounds at this point like Springer does have a good chance of suiting up.
