Humongous rainbow flag unfurled in Toronto park for Pride (PHOTOS)

In honour of Pride Month, a humongous rainbow flag was unfurled in Toronto’s Riverdale Park earlier on Friday.

In lieu of the city’s annual festival weekend in June, this year’s Pride celebrations have been running virtually all month long, in order to encourage continued physical distancing between participants.

But, with the gorgeous weather upon us and the city stepping into Stage 2 of recovery, some Torontonians hit the pavement grass today to spread some pride (and joy!) IRL.

The team at Rooster Coffee, City Councillor Paula Fletcher, MPP for Toronto-Danforth Peter Tabuns, and many others took to social media to share photos of the unfurling of a giant flag adorned with rainbow colours at Riverdale Park.

Participants appear to be appropriately distanced from each other while the sun shines above, laughter is heard on video, and the flag blows in the breeze.

If you want a reason to smile, check out the sweet captures below:

After the city of Toronto announced that all major events through to the month of June were cancelled, the Toronto Pride team had to modify festivities to create a virtual experience.

Festivities started on June 1, and will run through to June 28. This virtual experience aims to provide a new and creative way to celebrate and showcase the history, courage, and diversity of the LGBTQ2S+ community, while also ensuring the safety of Toronto residents and proper social distancing.

Check here for the events that you still have time to attend online before the month is through.
