New Toronto dumpling shop has a surprising connection with its biggest competitor

One of Toronto’s newest dumpling shops is already getting praise for its low prices and high-quality eats, and there’s a good reason for it.
Dumpling shops in Toronto are about as common as Tim Hortons locations — if you needed to, you could find a fantastic dumpling at nearly every major intersection in the city.
That fact does little to diminish the thrill that we, evangelical dumpling fans, feel when we learn that a new one has landed on the scene, however.
This week, it was Hero Dumpling, which has planted its roots at 437 Yonge St. (formerly home to a Burger Factory location and Hangry Burger before that) on Sunday, Sept. 7.
It’s your standard dumpling shop: the usual suspects are all there. Steamed, pan-fried, or full of soup, if a craving hits, they’ll surely be able to fill it, and at an undeniably competitive price, might we add.
As an opening promo (it’s unclear how long it’ll keep it up), Hero Dumpling is offering six-piece dumplings for as little as $2.99. Soup dumplings are priced at $3.99, while a BBQ Pork Bun will run you $2.59.

While the dirt-cheap prices might not be here forever, Kate, a member of the team, told Dished Toronto that accessible pricing is baked into the entire concept of the restaurant.
“We believe everyone is a hero in their own way — whether it’s at work, at home, or just getting through the day,” she explains. “[This] is our way of fueling those everyday heroes with comforting dumplings at a price that feels right.”
If there’s something about Hero Dumpling that feels unshakeably familiar, but you can’t quite put your finger on it, there’s a good reason for that: Kate told Dished Toronto that the Hero Dumpling team shares a family connection with the founders of beloved Toronto dumpling spot, Juicy Dumpling.

Still, “they’re run by completely different teams,” she explains.
In any event, if dumpling skills run in the family, we’re certain that those at Hero Dumpling will more than hit the spot.
