Beloved Toronto Halloween street event cancelled due to the pandemic

The annual and beloved Heddington Halloween has been cancelled this year, as there is no safe way for the event to be run in accordance with COVID-19 rules and recommendations.

Run by Barb Gordon since 1998, the Heddington Halloween display normally features hand-painted pop-culture decorations and spectacular Halloween displays that line Heddington Avenue.

“Marshalling over 1000 kids plus their families for, ‘socially distanced’ trick or treating would be impossible,” said Gordon. “I hope so very much that we’ll be able to run a massive event for Halloween 2021 in celebration of a return to some sort of normalcy.”

In 2013, the annual Heddington Halloween display became an official community fundraiser for SickKids Foundation, and the event has raised approximately $25,000 for SickKids from 2013 through 2019.

This year the event will be cancelled due to the pandemic, but donations for the hospital are much appreciated, and are still being collected here.
