A seven-year-old boy is in stable condition after being shot inside a Hamilton residence.

According to Hamilton Police, on January 23, at 7:53 pm, officers were dispatched to a residence for reports of a shooting.

Police said they arrived to find a seven-year-old child who was injured as a result of multiple gunshots into the house.

Investigators said the shots were fired into the residence from the rear yard.

“After discharging the firearm, the suspect fled from the rear yard into a vehicle waiting on Gordon Street and sped east. The vehicle has been described as a light-coloured four-door sedan,” said police, who also believe the residence was targeted and the child “was an unintended victim.”

Hamilton Police are continuing to investigate, canvassing the area for evidence, reviewing video surveillance and speaking to witnesses.

They are encouraging area residents and businesses with video cameras to contact the police.

If anyone has information that could assist with the investigation, call Detective Daryl Reid at (905) 546-3825.
