Guerrero Jr. with the Red Sox? Blue Jays slugger seems to like it

Since his MLB debut in 2019, Toronto Blue Jays slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has certainly set down his roots in the city.

The team’s far-and-away most popular player of this generation, the 25-year-old Montreal native’s success is the biggest key to determining if the franchise will ever return to World Series contention.

But after a down year in 2024 for the franchise where they missed the playoffs — and without a long-term contract extension signed yet by Guerrero — there are no guarantees about his long-term future in Toronto.

A four-time All-Star and 2021 MVP finalist in his time with the Jays, Guerrero is well on his way to replicate at least some of the accolades from his famous father’s Hall of Fame career.

If he doesn’t sign a lengthy deal with the Blue Jays, Guerrero could be heading to free agency after next season, where he’d be one of the most sought-after free agents in baseball.

And while Guerrero has previously mentioned his desire to stick around with the only MLB franchise he’s ever played for, a bit of social media activity this week could suggest he’s at least thinking about whether the grass is greener elsewhere.

A post from a Boston Red Sox fan account, lanacionboston, suggested the Red Sox could land Juan Soto this offseason and Guerrero the next, with the two teaming up with current Boston star Rafael Devers.

While Guerrero could’ve easily ignored it, his vladdyjr27 handle ended up liking the post, which remains true as of press time.

It could be nothing, it could be an errant like, or it could be a social media manager (or Guerrero himself) not really 100% thinking of the optics of the move.

But in any case, it won’t exactly quell fans’ long-term fears about the possibility that Toronto could see yet another star player leave the franchise.
