Metro and FreshCo employees test positive for COVID-19

Several Toronto and GTA grocery store locations have reported employees testing positive for COVID-19 in the last few days.

Canadian grocer Metro has recently updated its COVID-19 advisory page and has shared confirmed cases since January 8.

An employee at the 25 Vickers Road distribution centre reported testing positive for COVID-19 on January 8. The last day they had worked was on December 30.

A day later, on January 9, a Metro at 656 Eglinton Avenue East reported an employee testing positive for the virus. They had last worked on January 4.

On January 10, a Food Basics at 2200 Jane Street reported an employee testing positive for COVID-19. They had last worked on December 29.

Sobeys reported three separate COVID-19 cases since Tuesday.

On January 12, an employee at a FreshCo at 2490 Gerrard Street East in Scarborough reported testing positive for the virus and had last worked on January 5.

At another FreshCo location, this time in Toronto, an employee reported testing positive for COVID-19 and had last worked on December 12.

“We will always contact and follow the guidance of Public Health to ensure the safety of our teammates and customers whenever we are made aware of a confirmed case of COVID-19 in one of our food stores or distribution centres,” reads Metro’s website.
