FreshCo and Loblaws employees test positive for COVID-19

Several Toronto and GTA grocery stores have reported more than 15 COVID-19 cases among staff over the last several days.

Though many cases have been reported over the last few days, Sobeys has reported more cases from last week, starting on December 1.

An employee at a FreshCo in Richmond Hill tested positive for COVID-19. They had last worked on December 1 at the 1430 Major MacKenzie East location.

That same day, two employees at another FreshCo location, 1245 Dupont Street, reported testing positive for COVID-19. They had last worked on November 29 and December 3.

On December 8, an employee at a FreshCo located at 3400 Dundas Street West tested positive for COVID-19. They had last worked on November 29.

On December 11, an employee at a Sobeys located at 441 Clark Avenue West in Thornhill tested positive for COVID-19. The last day they worked was on December 7.

In Brampton, an employee at a FreshCo located at 380 Bovaird Drive East tested positive for COVID-19 on December 11. They had last worked on December 5.

That same day, an employee at another FreshCo in Brampton, this time at 12 Team Canada Drive, tested positive for the virus and had last worked on December 6.

As for other grocers such as Loblaws, more cases were reported over the weekend.

On December 12, two employees from a Fortinos location in Vaughan tested positive on a presumptive test for the virus. They had last worked on December 2 and 8 at the 3940 Highway 7 location.

That same day, another employee at a Fortinos, this time at 8585 Highway 27, tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19. They had last worked on December 4.

On December 13, an employee at Loblaws located at 60 Carlton Street tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19. They had last worked on December 5.

The same day, an employee at a Loblaws located at 3501 Yonge Street in North York tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19. They had last worked on December 9.

In Etobicoke, two employees at a No Frills located at 1530 Albion Road tested positive on a presumptive test for the virus on December 13. They had last worked on December 4 and 9.

On December 14, an employee at Loblaws located at 5095 Yonge Street tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19. They had last worked on December 10.

That same day, an employee at another Loblaws, this time at 301 Moore Avenue, tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19. They had last worked on December 13.

On December 14, an employee at a Fortinos located at 330 Queens Plate Drive tested positive on a presumptive test for the virus. They had last worked on December 7.

Last week, over 30 cases were reported in Toronto and the GTA at several grocery stores and LCBO locations.

Metro has previously shared coronavirus cases at locations including Parkway Mall, Queen West, Bloor and Spadina, College and Shaw, The Cold Chain Produce Distribution Centre, and more.

“We will always contact and follow the guidance of Public Health to ensure the safety of our teammates and customers whenever we are made aware of a confirmed case of COVID-19 in one of our food stores or distribution centres,” reads Metro’s website.

In an effort for transparency, Loblaws regularly updates their coronavirus cases in stores by province within the last 15 days, as well as Sobey’s within 14 days.

“In addition, we have mandated that our staff and customers wear masks in Extra Foods, Fortinos, Maxi, No Frills, Real Canadian Superstores, and T&T stores across Canada,” said Loblaws.
