Formula 1’s Canadian Grand Prix has been cancelled for the second consecutive year as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The Canadian stop of the Grand Prix circuit, which has become a landmark event in Montreal, was scheduled to take place in June.

During a Wednesday afternoon press conference, the Canadian and Quebec government said the race will return to Montreal in 2022 and an agreement has been reached with F1 to keep the race in Montreal until at least 2031.

The Canadian Grand Prix has been an annual event in Montreal since 1967. The last time the event was cancelled was in 2009 when an agreement couldn’t be reached over a viewing rights dispute.

Turkey has replaced Montreal on the circuit and will host the Grand Prix from June 11 to 13.
