Gardiner Expressway fall maintenance postponed due to rain

Oct 26 2018, 7:48 pm

The full closure of the Gardiner Expressway scheduled for this weekend has been cancelled.

According to a release from the City, the planned fall maintenance and improvement activities have been postponed due to forecasted rain.

The forecasted rain will restrict most of the planned work from being completed and will affect the extensive milling, paving and line marking activities for this year’s closure.

The closure of the Gardiner Expressway will be moved to the planned rain dates from Friday, November 2 at 11 pm until Monday, November 5 at 5 am.

The Expressway will be fully closed during this period from the Don Valley Parkway/Carlaw Avenue to Highway 427/Queen Elizabeth Way.

According to the City, the full closure of the Gardiner Expressway for one weekend is an important and safe way that City road crews, engineers and other stakeholders can make improvements and keep the throughway in the best state of good repair, in advance of the upcoming winter season.

During the closure, traffic-signal timing changes will be made to enhance traffic flow on nearby routes, mitigating traffic congestion associated with the Expressway’s closure.
