Ontario Premier Doug Ford is expected to detail an enhanced COVID-19 case and contact management strategy during his daily press conference this afternoon.

Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada will be launching a national app for COVID-19 contact tracing.

The app is being developed by Shopify, Blackberry, and the Province of Ontario.

He said that Ford will announce more on the app later today.

Ford will be joined by Health Minister Christine Elliott and Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. David Williams.

The announcement comes after Ford revealed seven more regions in the province could enter Stage 2 of reopening on Friday, now making the total 31.

Restaurant patios can reopen, hair salons and shopping malls can be visited and beaches and campsites in Ontario can reopen.

The three regions that must still remain in Stage 1 are Toronto, Peel, and Windsor-Essex.

On Monday, Ford asked that the three regions remain patient as “we can’t let our guard down.”

Over the last four days, new coronavirus numbers in Ontario have remained below 200.

Thursday’s briefing is scheduled for 1 pm at Queen’s Park.
