12 food events to check out in Toronto this week: January 6 to 12

Hopefully, these fun and tasty activities will make easing out of the holidays a little bit easier.

From chocolate making (a lot of it!) to jackfruit cooking classes, here’s what’s happening in Toronto’s food scene this week.

Gdous Juicy Chicken House is celebrating the grand opening of their second location this weekend. Starting Friday and going through to Sunday, the first 100 customers each day will receive a piece of free fried chicken. Choose between the BA chicken leg or a crispy chicken steak… either way, you’ll leave satisfied.

Eat Famous French Pastry

Nadege is bringing back a limited-edition favourite. The Galette de Rois is filled with a rich and velvety almond pastry creme… and a small trinket called the fève. The trinket is hidden in one of the tart’s slices, and the person who finds it gets to keep it! The pastry will be available for three weeks at all locations starting from January 5.

Yoga, Beer and Brunch

Start your 2019 off right with 60 minutes of Vinyasa Flow yoga led by Becki Charles, followed by a well-deserved flight of People’s Pint beers with a tutored tasting with owner and Prud’homme Master Sommelier Doug Appeldoorn.

Bootcamp + Beer

Bootcamp + Beer

Working out and beer? This sounds like a bootcamp we could get used to. Junction Craft Brewing is hosting this fun workout that combines strength, conditioning and motivation to work off the calories you’ll consume after class. Post-workout you’ll raise a pint to all the hard work you just put in.

Paint Pouring with a Pint

Get your creative juices flowing this Sunday as you sip on a pint at this fun abstract art workshop. During the workshop, you’ll develop and refine your paint pouring skills and incorporate wax to add details using negative space. No experience required!

Classic Chocolate Making

Learn about the history of this delectable, romantic treat and make your own truffles at this hands-on event. You’ll get to learn about tempering and moulding decorate a lava cake, and take home a box of delicious truffles. Which you can share… or savour all for yourself. We won’t tell.

Healthy Chocolate Making

If the holiday sugar rush upped your sweet cravings and you’re looking for an alternative way to curb them, try this healthy chocolate making workshop. Raw cacao and chocolate have phenomenal health benefits, including being high in magnesium and anandamide… which is literally a “bliss chemical.” Find your own bliss making chocolatey, vegan, nut-free goodies infused with superfoods.

Beer and Cheese Pairing

Forget wine and cheese, not really though because it’s amazing, but anyway how about beer and cheese? Yeah, that’s right. Each of the pairings you try at this evening event will be different. They’ll include some interesting and sometimes challenging cheeses, served alongside five of Rorschach Brewing’s current beer creations.

Dumpling Crawl

This foodie series is happening every Friday in January. You’re going to be able to try all sorts of different eats from all over Toronto. This week, you’ll be visiting five restaurants in Chinatown, all serving a different style of Chinese dumpling. Savour soup dumplings, potstickers and dim sum favourites while hiding from the cold.

Rolling Hops Beer Tours: East End

You know that what you need this winter is an extensive tour of Toronto’s East End beer scene. Try samples at each brewery you visit and stroll through the Greenwood – Coxwell neighbourhood, revelling in how lovely the city can be in the winter time. Bring friends, because this is bound to be a beautiful bonding experience.
