Fans hate latest outrageously expensive FIFA World Cup merch drop

Those who designed FIFA’s World Cup host city jerseys may need to head back to the drawing board.

On Thursday morning, FIFA released limited-edition World Cup host city sweaters. There have been four unveiled so far: New York/New Jersey, Kansas City, Seattle, and Boston. The rest of the host cities are expected to be released in the near future, though an exact date has not been specified.

“Be one of the firsts to own one of the limited FIFA World Cup 2026 Host City jerseys,” the official FIFA account wrote on X. “These collector-exclusives honor the bold cultures that make these cities legendary.”

Unfortunately for FIFA, public reaction to these jerseys has been about as bad as one could possibly imagine.

“Who designed these shirts? They should be fired because they are some of the ugliest things I have ever seen,” one user wrote on X.

The unique design (to put it nicely) hasn’t gone over well with fans. The even bigger issue is the price.

These jerseys are being listed at C$515, a price point the vast majority seem to agree is completely ludicrous.

“Who in their right mind would pay C$515 for this shirt? This is a $50 shirt [maximum] and even that’s an absurd price,” another user chimed in.

At that price point, FIFA may have a difficult time convincing fans to open their wallets, especially given the overwhelmingly negative reaction to the designs themselves. With several more host city jerseys still set to be unveiled, fans are now left wondering whether things somehow get better from here — or even worse.
