One-of-a-kind Toronto sandwich shop reopening after a year-long closure

A Toronto sandwich shop unlike any other in the city is finally about to open after being shut down for a year.
While sandwich shops in Toronto are in no short supply, we’re firm believers in the “the more, the merrier” approach, particularly when it comes to the ones that put a unique spin on one of the most widely available food formats around.
It’s for that exact reason that the sudden and quiet closure of Corktown staple FAMO Sandwiches in the spring of 2024 was particularly heartbreaking.
Open in the neighbourhood for eight years, the sandwich shop made its name crafting juicy, dense sandwiches using alternative cuts of meat, which are, tragically, often discarded or, if schoolyard urban legends are to be believed, turned into street meat.
Beef tongue, oxtail, burgers, and breaded fish tacos graced the menu of the celebrated sandwich shop, all crafted with the bits and pieces that often go overlooked despite being no less delicious, and FAMO stood as living proof of that fact.
Until that is, the shop quietly closed its doors. For a year, fans of FAMO were left sitting on their hands as the sandwich shop’s Instagram bio merely read “Temporarily Closed,” explaining that the restaurant was relocating and would eventually return.
Well, the wait is finally almost over, as FAMO has officially secured its new location and, a representative from FAMO tells Dished Toronto, is working hard to open its doors.
“It sure is exciting to open our new location,” they say, and, luckily, that new location isn’t far from where FAMO originally made its name.
They’re moving in at 21 Dalhousie St., a worthy neighbour to 10 Dean‘s Elm location in the same building ā but you’ll have to wait a little longer before you get to sink your teeth into that famous FAMO tastiness again.

“We are hoping to open for [the end of] September if things get done as planned,” the representative explains.
No one likes to think about the end of summer, especially while we’re in the thick of it at this very moment, but the promise of FAMO’s return certainly gives us something to look forward to when the days get shorter.
